Spinning Wheel

Kurt Cobain, big-band-arrangement, big-band-chart,

Spinning Wheel (David Clayton-Thomas)

The song is written by the Canadian vocalist David Clayton-Thomas in 1968. It received a Grammy Award for best instrumental arrangement, written by the band's saxophonist Fred Lipsius.

The key is D-flat and suitable for most female voices. Though the melody in the bridge is kept the same, the harmonies are completely revised. The original trumpet solo as played by Lew Soloff is completely written out and comes as a separate part. Less high due to the key-change. And of course the ending with the old Austrian song 'Oh du lieber Augustin' is still there.

No big band recording of it yet but in the audio sample we hear the score being played with sampled sounds and the vocal part played by an alto flute.
